Colville U.S. 395 North and South Roundabouts

Colville, Washington

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Welch Comer provided the engineering and construction phase services for two roundabouts in the City of Colville, both on U.S. 395.

The South Roundabout became operational in late summer 2003 and is a southern gateway to the City.  The design for the roundabout includes a special Colville entry sign, decorative lighting, and landscaping in the center island, as well as the approaches.  The design was the subject of extensive citizen involvement and considered the input of the local business owners.  Required sight distance setbacks and other safety features are included in the layout.

The North Roundabout completed in 2007 was the final phase of the Colville Truck Route, a multi-year project that upgraded the city’s downtown area an provided an alternative route for truck passing through Colville. This roundabout is the second on the truck bypass.

In addition to providing a high level of service for vehicles, both roundabout’s were carefully designed to create a very desirable entrance feature to the City.
