Hecla Mining Grid Conversion

Mullan, Idaho

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Welch Comer performed surveying services to convert Hecla’s existing G-Grid system to the Lucky Friday Grid System.  To complete this task Welch Comer did extensive research of Hecla’s records to recover existing coordinate information. Once researched it was necessary to convert the 6 different coordinate grid systems to one common system and construct a control network over a 69 square mile area.

The Survey department had to tie 30 existing Hecla monuments, portals, mining claim corners, section corners and mineral monuments in order to convert the existing grid system to the new Lucky Friday Grid system. In the end Welch Comer was able to provide UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) coordinates to Hecla.
