Welch Comer Engineers, in association with the Tom Hudson Company, performed civil engineering and transportation planning, cost estimating, and preliminary design for proposed improvements to Downtown Sandpoint. This multi-disciplined planning effort included coordination with the City and Idaho Transportation Department for internal circulation options between the U.S. 95 and U.S. 2 corridors.
The strategic planning process included an extensive public participation program, digital color graphics, and strategies for funding and implementation.
The strategic plan was published on an interactive digital CD, which was well received and widely distributed in the community. Implementation recommendations from the plan were promptly pursued by City Staff and the Downtown Revitalization Steering Committee. The Committee is pursuing the goal of completing a successful demonstration project to establish the template for revitalizing the entire downtown core area.
